The Exhibition “Multi-faceted Roles: Yam Kim-fai and the art of Cantonese Opera” was held from 20 November to 20 December 2018 in the Wofoo Foundation Gallery of the Run Run Shaw Library, City University of Hong Kong.
In concerted effort with the Yam Kim Fai Research Project, the exhibition put together some of the most cherished collectibles including photos, publications and movie posters in relation to the renowned Cantonese opera artist Yam Kim-fai. Movies featuring Yam Kim-fai were also shown with the generous support of Tao Yuen Motion Picture Development Company. Furthermore, two sets of Cantonese opera costumes were displayed to let visitors appreciate the aesthetics of this traditional art.
To promote Cantonese Opera among our young generation, a series of exhibition boards were presented to introduce the basics of Cantonese opera and showcased Yam Kim-fai’s contributions to the development of Cantonese opera and the Hong Kong film industry. Selected books and DVDs from the Library collection were also on display.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in and contributed to this exhibition.
