In 2016 CityU received generous donations from President of Wofoo Social Enterprises and Chairman of Wofoo Plastics and Chemical Group Dr. Joseph Lee Chung-tak for the development of student entrepreneurship; a project in the Department of Management Sciences aimed at transforming community-based elderly care; and the enhancement of the Run Run Shaw Library. To honor Dr. Lee’s support and generosity, the Library’s Multi-purpose Lobby is named the Wofoo Foundation Gallery.
An opening ceremony was held on 24 November 2016 to celebrate. Council Chairman Mr. Herman Hu Shao-ming, President Professor Way Kuo, and Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Hong Kong SAR Government Mr. Nicolas Yang Wei-hsiung attended the ceremony. Dr. Lee wished that the Wofoo Foundation Gallery can promote culture and values among University staff and students.
The forum on “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” followed after the unveiling ceremony. Three speakers were invited to share their experiences and views on innovation, and discussed the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship for the future development of Hong Kong society. They were Mr Shih Wing-ching, Founder and Chairman of Centaline Group, and Founder and Chairman of am730; Mr Eric Chen Zixiang, CityU alumnus and Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Vitargent (International) Biotechnology Limited; and Mr Cheung Leong, Executive Director, Charities and Community of The Hong Kong Jockey Club. It was facilitated by Mr Li Chan-wing, CityU alumnus and Director of Li C.W. Consultant.
