When you first visit "Badges" in Canvas course, you should add new issuer or select existed issuer.

After clicking "CREATE ISSUER", "New Issuer" popup window would be shown. A badge issuer profile describes an organization or individual responsible for issuing badges. An issuer could represent an individual, a course or instructor, a department, school, or organization.

After selecting an issuer, you need to decide which of modules you would like to award a badge.

On specific module, click download triangle:

• select a badge from the list, or
• click button "CREATE NEW BADGE" to upload badge image and input information.
