CityUHK (Dongguan) granted Ministry of Education stamp of approval

It’s a brand new chapter in higher education cooperation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The establishment of CityUHK (Dongguan) received official approval from the Ministry of Education on 16 April 2024, further solidifying our leading position in innovative education and talent development.
CityUHK (Dongguan) will be strategically located in the Songshan Lake High-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Science City), a state-level, comprehensive high-tech industrial development zone.
“CityUHK (Dongguan) is poised to become a pivotal hub for industry-academia-research collaboration,” says Mr Lester Garson Huang, Chairman of the CityUHK Council.
Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK, affirmed that, “CityUHK (Dongguan) will uphold CityUHK’s educational philosophy, fostering an educational environment that is inspiring, interactive, and innovative under the principle of ‘two schools, one quality’, to nurture innovative talents.”
The aim is for CityUHK (Dongguan) to inject fresh vitality into the construction of a high-level international talent hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, elevate the standard of higher education development in Dongguan, and contribute to leading the strategy for the comprehensive national science centre in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Areas of focus will include computer science, artificial intelligence and data science, high-end electronic communications, biomedical engineering, intelligent manufacturing, advanced materials, new energy, civil and architectural engineering, and digital economy.
Four undergraduate programmes and 10 master’s programmes are planned for the 2024/25 academic year commencing in September.
Campus construction began in early 2022, including administrative buildings, academic buildings, student dormitories, international exchange centres, comprehensive buildings, and other living facilities. The entire project is scheduled for completion by 2026.
