  • The new School of Energy and Environment promotes interdisciplinary approaches to developing sustainable energy and environmental technologies.

2010

  • CityU Strategic Plan 2010-2015 New Strategic Plan 2010–2015 Excellence in Research and Professional Education aims to build CityU into a leading global university in the Asia-Pacific region.

2011

  • HK$125 million donation Student awards and bursaries for underprivileged students plus sponsorship for strategic initiatives funded by HK$125 million donation from the Joseph Lau Luen-hung Charitable Trust.

2012

  • New four-year curriculum marks a major milestone in CityU’s professional education.
  • Discovery-enriched Curriculum ignites students’ passion for knowledge and discovery.
  • CityU ranked 95th in Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2012, breaking into the world’s top 100.
     

2014

  • One health School of Veterinary Medicine is founded.


     
  • Newly established CityU Foundation advances aspirations to benefit society by enhancing bonding with friends, donors and supporters.
     

2015

  • D Li Dak-sum A HK$100 million donation from Dr Li Dak-sum establishes the Li Dak Sum & Yip Yio Chin Development Fund for Veterinary Medicine.
     
  • Strategic Plan 2015–2020 Making a Difference through Excellence in Research and Professional Education is published.
  • New logo unifies all CityU communications, reflecting our core values.
  • Dr Yeung Kin-man HK$200 million donation from entrepreneur Dr Yeung Kin-man supports CityU’s veterinary medicine initiatives, overseas exchanges and endowed chair professorships.
     
  • New Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study drives excellence in interdisciplinary research.
     

2016

  • Full ownership is acquired for the Peace Avenue Veterinary Clinic.

2017

  • CityU ranked 49th in QS World University Rankings as announced in 2017, breaking into the world’s top 50.
  • BOCHK Charitable Foundation A HK$100 million donation from BOCHK Charitable Foundation enhances development of veterinary medicine and overseas exchanges/internships.
     
  • 1st student intake for self-financed BVM commences.
  • Jockey Club One Health centerKickstarted Plans for Jockey Club One Health Tower kickstarted with HK$500 million donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

2018

  • Development of a data-driven economy strengthened by creation of School of Data Science and Hong Kong Institute for Data Science.
  • Naming of Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences in collaboration with Cornell University.

2019

  • President Way Kuo bestowed title and rank of Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Legion d’ Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour) by the government of France.   • CityU Veterinary Medical Centre opens to provide CityU veterinary students with medical cases for practicum experience.
  • 1st student intake for publicly-funded BVM.
  • Emergency Response Unit begins handling numerous challenges stemming from social incidents and, later, for handling campus public health issues during the COVID-19 pandemic.
     

2020

  • CityU Learning CityU-Learning allows students to follow original class schedule online after face-to-face classes were cancelled because of social-distancing rules introduced for COVID-19.
     
  • Strategic Plan 2020–2025 World-class Research and Education outlines integrated, cutting-edge curriculum designed to nurture the next generation of professionals.
  • The introduction of the cum laude system enhances the classification of undergraduate degrees at CityU, rewarding excellent students and upholding academic standards and quality.
     

2021

  • Jockey Club One Health Tower Superstructure work for Jockey Club One Health Tower commences.

     
  • The Forum on Clean Energy and Nuclear Safety hosted at CityU with National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, Seoul National University, and Tokyo Institute of Technology brings together 38 world-renowned scholars, industry leaders and policymakers to discuss topics on sustainability and the energy crisis.
  • Large-scale flagship programme HK Tech 300 rolled out to advance innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • The annual Congregation ceremony moves from November to May and is renamed Commencement to align with practices of top US universities.
  • Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia President Way Kuo awarded the Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia (the Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy) by the government of Italy.
     
  • University Anthem (Part 1), with the theme “Beyond Boundaries” and lyrics written by President Kuo, encourages students, faculty and staff to reach for their dreams.
  • The CityU Tiger programme enables elite students to pursue excellence, develop their potential, and take courses taught by world-class STEM professors.
  • CityU climbs to 29th in the 2021 top 100 universities granted US utility patents by the National Academy of Inventors, making us 1st among Hong Kong universities for the 6th consecutive year

2022

  • CityU ranked 1st in Hong Kong in Citations per Faculty in the QS World University Rankings averaged over a six-year period from 2017 to 2022.
  • CityU ranked 1st in Hong Kong for 5th consecutive year for highest number of academic subjects (15 in 2022) placed in world’s top 50 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subject list.
  • CityU launches “Beyond Boundaries: Dialogue with Presidents of World’s Leading Educational Institutions” series, hosted by President Kuo.

  • Tiger Debut of University Mascot, a brightly coloured tiger that reflects CityU's wise, vital, vigorous and proactive character.


     
  • University Anthem (Part 2) themed “Knowledge and Wisdom” encapsulates aspirations of integrating teaching and research.
  • Preparatory approval received from Ministry of Education to set up CityU Dongguan.
  • The HK Tech Forum series promotes collaboration with world-leading scholars on long-standing scientific puzzles and challenging technology issues.
  • Named Chair Professorships Inauguration ceremony for Named Chair Professorships honours distinguished scholars and pays tribute to CityU’s generous donors.

     
  • CityU Farm CityU Farm, located in Lam Tsuen, Tai Po, opens as a teaching farm for BVM students.


     
  • United, We Soar “United, We Soar” fundraising campaign raises over HK$2.5 billion, reaching the target well ahead of schedule.


     
  • Mic Installation Work commences on MiC installation for new halls of residence at Whitehead in Ma On Shan.

     
  • More than 180 CityU faculty members were among the top 2% of the world’s most highly cited scientists, according to metrics complied by Stanford University.
