Course Aims

This course aims to introduce students to the theories, institutions, and practices related to urbanization and health management in both Hong Kong and worldwide. The course will introduce Health in All Policies (HiAP) and explore the social determinants of health recommended by World Health Organization, including the linkages with different dimensions of urban environment and corresponding health action plans. The course places emphasis on the innovative discovery made by students through class participation and group project. Overall, the course will help students develop skillsets for health management in the urban context, including 1) to brainstorm various solutions to enhance wellbeing and reduce health risk under complex urban processes, and 2) to learn how to use various tools to assess social determinants of health in a city.
