Aims of Minor

  1. Assist students in developing their English proficiency though a systematic study of the English language and exposure to English literary texts and enable them to develop their critical and creative use of English.
  2. Acquaint students with basic concepts of linguistic analysis and literary interpretation in English.
  3. Equip students with the analytical tools and skills to a) analyze English texts and utterances, b) understand and improve their own English language competencies, c) discuss and appreciate the historical and cultural significance of literary works written in English.
  4. Promote the interest in and appreciation of Anglophone cultures in line with the University’s mission to ‛create a culturally diverse learning ambiance’ and ‛enhance students’ acquisition of communicative skills and analytical abilities.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Minor (MINILOs)

Upon successful completion of this minor, students should be able to:
  1. Identify and explain key concepts in English language and literary studies.
  2. Analyze a range of written and spoken texts in terms of their cultural, historical, or linguistic contexts.
  3. Explain and analyze the relationship between English language and social life including the role of English as a global language.
  4. Identify key figures and works in literature written in English as well as major conventions, literary forms and critical terms. 
  5. Create unique personal, analytical, and creative responses that demonstrate a critical awareness of English in the world today.
