Novel Microfluidic Tumor Model Developed

Dr KHOO Bee Luan and her research team developed a novel microfluidic multi-faceted bladder tumor model, TAMPIEB, which integrates tumor-associated macrophages and bladder cancer cells to investigate the influence of bacterial distribution on immunomodulation in the tumor microenvironment in vivo. It is the first successful demonstration that biofilm-induced inflammatory conditions within tumors promote the transition of macrophages from a pro-inflammatory M1-like to an anti-inflammatory/pro-tumor M2-like state.
