Dr YU Xinge and his collaborators in Beihang University developed two small, wireless wearable interfaces that bring smell into virtual reality. One can adhere to the skin between the nose and mouth like a bandage, while the other straps on beneath a headset like a face mask. The interfaces could be helpful for people who have anosmia, or an inability to smell.

The team's work has been described and published in Nature Communications (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-37678-4).
