CityUHK Underwater Robotics Team - PIONEER, which is supervised by Prof. Pakpong CHIRARATTANANON and Prof. Ray CHEUNG from the Department of Electrical Engineering, has received the IEEE OES Engineering Quality Award and SGD400 cash prize in the Singapore Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge 2024. The creative design included the electronic speed controller outside the vehicle for cooling, separate development and testing dockers, and an aesthetically shark-fin shaped magnetic kill switch.

The Singapore Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge is an international competition of autonomous underwater vehicles for participants to develop skills in the related fields of mechanical, electrical and software engineering.
