Withdrawal of Studies
Students who do not plan to continue their studies at the University should submit the withdrawal notification via AIMS [Student Record > My Applications (for Undergraduates and Taught Postgraduate Programmes) > Withdrawal from Studies]
- After submission, you will receive an email acknowledging receipt of the withdrawal notification.
- Withdrawal will normally take effect from the date of submission of the notification as recorded in AIMS. However, notification submitted during or after the examination period will take effect only from the following semester.
- By submitting the application, you agree to the terms and conditions outlined in the notes for the application and give consent to the Personal Information Collection Statement.
Personal Information Collection Statement
- The personal data provided in an application form will be used for processing the application. Failure to provide complete and accurate information may render the University unable to process the application.
- The information provided may be disclosed/transferred to relevant academic units/administrative offices within the University for consideration and/or necessary actions.
- For non-local students, changes in student record may also be disclosed/transferred to relevant Government bodies, such as the Immigration Department, if deemed necessary.
- After the application has been processed, relevant data will be transferred to the student record system of the University
- After submission of this form, requests for access to and/or correction of the personal data should be made to the Academic Regulations and Records Office.

*In Semester A/B, for programmes/degrees charged on a per credit unit basis, students will be liable for the tuition fee chargeable or the minimum tuition fee of two credit units, whichever is higher.
- Sunday is the start day of the week according to the Academic Calendar.
- For new students, the acceptable fee paid at the time of admission will not be refunded under any circumstances.
- Students who have withdrawn from studies but still have outstanding fees in their student accounts will be flagged as debtors in the student record system. The graduation fee will not be refunded. These students will be required to clear the amount when seeking admission/readmission to the University in future.
Students are required to settle the following matters within 10 working days upon notification of withdrawal:
- Settle all outstanding fees in the student account
- Return all outstanding loans to the Library and settle all outstanding fines
- Clear your accounts in the Computing Services Centre
- Vacate your locker and complete the necessary procedures with the Student Development Services
- Clear all outstanding matters with your home academic unit
- Cut your student identity card into halves and return it by post to the Academic Regulations and Records Office (Address: 5/F Fong Yun Wah Building, City University of Hong Kong, 83 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon).
The graduation fee will be refunded if students have settled all outstanding matters with the University.
(Publicity-funded Programmes of Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students and/or Non-means Tested Loan Scheme)
- You should notify the Student Financial Office (SFO) about your withdrawal of studies immediately in writing. The SFO will review your application and adjust your entitlements of financial assistance, if necessary. In the event that there is an overpayment of financial assistance, you are required to refund the amount overpaid immediately upon demand.
- You must leave Hong Kong within 4 weeks from the submission date of the withdrawal notification or before the expiry of your limit of stay, whichever is earlier. It is an immigration offence for breach of condition of stay if you fail to leave Hong Kong within the prescribed time.
