Course Add/Drop & Study Load
Course Add/Drop
- Students are required to finalize their study plans by the end of the add/drop period.
- All students, including exchange students, can add/drop courses online for web-enabled courses during the add/drop period. For non-web-enabled courses or other courses with registration restrictions, you can seek the course-offering academic unit’s permission via an electronic form on AIMS. The course registration website will provide you with more details
Important Note: Course pre-registration will be arranged for exchange students based on their study plans upon admission. You are advised that if you drop any pre-registered course(s) during the online add/drop period, you may be unable to add the course(s) back due to registration restrictions/availability of places. Please consult with your exchange coordinator if necessary. - Visiting Students should have finalized their study plan at the time they accept the offer. The normal course add/drop procedures for regular students are not applicable to visiting students
Study Load
- All non-local students holding a student visa for full-time studies must observe the minimum study load for full-time students in accordance with Section 10 of the University’s Academic Regulations
- Exceptions for taking a reduced study load are permitted for (1) the final graduating semester upon approval by the Head of academic unit or (2) students in academic difficulty as determined by the College/School Dean(s) in any semester.
- Non-local students' applications for extension of stay are subject to approval by the Immigration Department (IMMD) of HKSAR. Before applying for a reduced study load in a semester, students should consider if the reduced study load would lead to deferral of graduation and the possible consequence of failing to extend their stay in Hong Kong.
If there is any inconsistency or ambiguity between the page contents and the Academic Regulations (AR), rules and guidelines, the AR, rules and guidelines shall prevail.
