CityUHK is ranked 4th, the highest ranking so far, in THE Best Young Universities in the World 2024, rising by two places from last year’s ranking.

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) was ranked 4th among 673 universities under 50 years old globally in the recently published Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2024, rising by two places from last year’s ranking. This is the highest ranking so far for CityUHK and the eighth consecutive year it has been ranked among the world’s top 10 young universities.

THE evaluated 673 universities less than 50 years old from 79 countries or regions. CityUHK distinguished itself in several evaluation criteria, achieving full marks in "Industry". Moreover, its scores in "International Outlook" and "Research Quality" placed the University second and eighth globally in these two criteria, respectively.

“Following its earlier recognition as the Most International University in the World, CityUHK rose to No. 4 for the first time in THE Best Young Universities ranking and is once again ranked in the top 10 best young universities globally. This significant accolade is a tribute to the diverse community of students and scholars at CityUHK,” said Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK.

“CityUHK will continue to promote innovative, inspirational and interactive education and research, leading CityUHK teachers and students to embrace global development trends and contribute to society in Hong Kong and the world,” he added.

President Boey said that as this year marks the 30th Anniversary of CityUHK, a series of innovative and impactful projects have been launched under the celebration theme “Innovating into the Future”, including the establishment of the CityUHK Academy of Innovation and the Institute of Digital Medicine, to show the University’s commitment to cultivating talent through innovation and pioneering research.

In addition, 28 faculty members from CityUHK were named Highly Cited Researchers for 2023 by Clarivate, placing the University 44th worldwide, 10th in Asia and 2nd in Hong Kong. CityUHK’s percentage of the world’s most Highly Cited Researchers is 1st in Hong Kong by faculty size. Recently, CityUHK again topped local institutions for the 8th consecutive year in the prestigious Top 100 Worldwide Universities Granted US Utility Patents, showcasing the world-class faculty and research teams at the University.

To attract more internationally renowned scholars, CityUHK launched the Distinguished Visiting Professors Scheme (DVPS) in 2023 and has invited nearly 30 scholars from prestigious universities to conduct cross-sectoral science and academic cooperation with CityUHK faculty and students. The scale of the DVPS will continue to be expanded by inviting more renowned scholars to further promote academic exchange.
