SEE Colloquium on the Role of Environmental Professionals in Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development

We are delighted to have Dr. Chui Ho Kwong, Samuel, JP, Director of Environmental Protection Department, HKSAR, share his insights on the Role of Environmental Professionals in Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development at the SEE Colloquium on 6 February 2024. In the Colloquium, Dr. Chui showed a number of case studies on environmental challenges covering air pollution, water pollution, waste management, environmental impact assessment and COVID-19 and talked about how the environmental professionals in Environmental Protection Department handled these challenges by using smart technologies and fundamental principles, resulting in environmental improvements.

Dr. Chui is an environmental engineer (Fellow Member of HKIE) with over 30 years of experience in the field of environmental engineering, and has been responsible for a number of tasks including sewerage infrastructure planning, Harbour Area Sewage Treatment Scheme, O-PARK1, O-PARK2, I-PARK1, and the Review of the Environmental Impact Assessment Process. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he used his expertise to launch a territory-wide sewage surveillance program that successfully identified over 26,000 COVID cases and broke the chain of transmission.

Sustainable Development
