Two CityU PhD researchers, Aaron DOERING from Material Science, Daniel ECKHOFF from Computer Science, and Jayson HAEBICH, CityU alumnus and new media artist curated the “Lemon Team” and started their fintech journey when they joined CityU’s FinTech Olympiad in 2022.

During the programme training, the members not only acquired fundamental knowledge and business applications of fintech, but were also inspired by the trainers and took the project-based challenge of the FinTech Olympiad Competition. After months of hard work, the team came up with an innovative solution to the used car market, a blockchain-based platform for people to validate the information about used cars, a design to bring back trust, integrity and assurance to the market.

Having won the bronze medal in the Competition, the team gained more confidence in carrying on with their project. They entered other fintech competitions and applied for funding support. Recently, by utilising the seed funds from CityU’s HK Tech 300 and the HKSTP Ideation, they have set up their own start-up business to bring their award-winning business idea to life.

The team is thankful for having joined the FinTech Olympiad, which allows them to meet like-minded peers, equip themselves with practical fintech skills and knowledge, and meet with fintech experts and professionals through great networking opportunities.
