CityU Presidential PhD Scholarship

    Each Scholarship up to HK$1.56M for the 4-year Programme

     

     

    Objective

    With aims of attracting high quality candidates from around the world to pursue full-time PhD studies at CityU, the University has decided to offer the prestigious Presidential PhD Scholarship to selected outstanding full-time PhD students. Presidential PhD Scholarship will be awarded to the brightest PhD students studying STEM-related fields at CityU (STEM refers to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

     

    Eligibility

    Prospective students are those who:

    1. were given admission offers for PhD study by global top universities but have not yet accepted/have declined the offers;
    2. demonstrate outstanding academic performance, research ability/potential, communication and interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.

    Proof of admission offer by a global top university must be provided upon application (if applicable).

    All admission requirements for regular full-time PhD study will be applied.

    The students receiving Presidential PhD Scholarships will be classified as non-UGC full-time students.

     

    The Award

    Each Presidential PhD Scholarship awardee will receive the following:

    1. scholarship of HK$26,900 per month for the 4-year PhD study;
    2. tuition grant supported by the University to cover 50% of the tuition fee (full fee is HK$7,016 per month) for the 4-year PhD study. The students will only be required to pay tuition fee of HK$3,508 per month; and
    3. research-related travel allowance of HK$8,000 per month, up to 12 months, in support of the student’s visits to overseas universities for research related work.

    All awardees will be eligible to apply for the University’s financial awards and assistance offered to regular non-UGC full-time PhD students, such as Conference Grant.

    The award is renewed on a yearly basis and subject to satisfactory study progress.

     

    Application Deadlines

    For starting study in Semester B 2021/22 (January 2022):     15 September 2021

    For starting study in Semester A 2022/23 (September 2022): 1 December 2021
