English for the Humanities and Social Sciences is meant to acquaint students with skills in academic literacy to develop their advanced analytical reading, critical thinking, and logical reasoning for deeper understandings of texts. During the course, students will be introduced to a wide variety of genres as they develop their skills in the interpretation, analysis, and criticism of the text. They will identify various rhetorical features of disciplinary texts and explore the texts based on the genre, audience, and purpose. Not limited to tasks that examine and deconstruct texts, they will also produce writing considering these aspects. Moreover, the students will develop their ability to query a corpus to better understand how English is used in practice and discover solutions to language-use problems as well as practice writing as a process.
