Lauded as the “Freest Economy in the World”, Hong Kong has developed from a small fishing village to becoming a renowned international financial centre. This phenomenal progress belies the complex issues arising from the dynamic interface between business, government and society. Through lectures, discussions, case studies and project-based learning, students are guided to think critically when : (1) tracing the historical evolution of the economy; (2) exploring the interrelationships between business (organisations) and other stakeholders against the backdrop of the Hong Kong cultural milieu; (3) analysing some of the impacts of economic growth and the problems inherent in capitalistic societies; (4) examining how some corporations address their (corporate) social responsibilities; (5) identifying Hong Kong’s regional and global roles and relations.
