This course aims to develop students’ ability to appreciate Chinese fine art by engaging them in close study of the concepts underlying the aesthetic value of art and its features and analysis of a wide spectrum of Chinese art forms over time. Students are also encouraged to think critically about the cultural issues surrounding Chinese art from a global and modern perspective, to make comparisons with other art cultures and to relate art to the modern human experience.
This basic, comprehensive programme provides students with broad exposure to Chinese fine arts and helps them to identify the characteristics of Chinese art through various class activities, including lectures, tutorials, group projects, presentations, hands-on art experience (interactions with curators), online discussions and reflection .
