Course Aims

  • To encourage students to discover the functions of law in society, and its relationship between morality and justice;
  • To guide students to developing a sound understanding and appreciation of the concept of the rule of law under One Country Two Systems;
  • To familiarise students with the sources, classification and operation of Hong Kong law and other features of the legal system in Hong Kong;
  • To introduce students to the legal and constitutional framework in which law is practised and administered in Hong Kong;
  • To introduce students to basic features of civil justice and judicial review;
  • To introduce students to the relationship between HKSAR and the PRC, concepts of national security and the interface between Hong Kong and Chinese Law; and
  • To encourage students to think critically about Hong Kong law and institutions and to communicate their views and their analysis effectively both orally and in writing.

Continuous Assessment: 50%
Examination: 50%
Examination Duration: 2 hours
A student must obtain a minimum mark of 30% in both coursework and examination and an overall mark of 40% in order to pass the Course.
