Programme Aims

The programme aims to train students in the core domains of business and cutting-edge information systems that underpin the contemporary information society, so that graduates can excel in careers with professional positions that require both advanced business knowledge and IT-enabled problem solving skills.


Stream A is offered to applicants with a non-IT background and focuses on developing their competence in evaluating cutting-edge IT, coordinating IT-enabled business initiatives, and managing the operation of business information systems, so as to meet the business needs of the organization.


Stream B is offered to applicants with an IT/IS background which is expected at intermediate level (i.e. completion of four IT/IS related courses at the undergraduate level); and focuses on developing their capability to integrate IT with business domain knowledge and the associated management skills, so that they boost their ability to meet business needs by leveraging IT/IS applications and managing cutting-edge IT/IS projects.
 


Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

Upon successful completion of this Programme, students should be able to:

  1. Process, analyze and manage business/accounting data, information, and knowledge
  2. Elaborate and address the key issues in specific business domains for IS such as finance and accounting
  3. Demonstrate critical thinking abilities and communication skills in the development and management of cutting-edge information systems and technologies
  4. Discover opportunities and identify competitive advantages for organizations via information systems management, planning, and strategies
  5. Cope with emerging IS/IT issues such as IS risks and security in contemporary information society and Internet-enabled businesses

Students of Stream A who have completed 18 credit units of programme core courses may apply for the Postgraduate Certificate in Business Information Systems.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Business Information Systems is not applicable for students enrolled in Stream B.
