This course aims to provide students with a good understanding of key issues, dynamics, and challenges of China’s foreign policy in the context of its development since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. It will pay special attention to China’s current efforts to achieve national greatness and the world’s responses to China’s quest. By the end of the semester, students should be able to identify and assess major institutions, key actors, domestic drives, and external factors that influence China’s foreign policy making. They should also get familiar with the major concepts in relation to China's foreign policy, develop the capability of critically evaluating international relations theories against China’s background, and obtain analytical skills to formulate policy responses to the challenges facing China’s foreign relations.
