Award Certificates
Award certificate is an official credential issued by the University for each academic qualification conferred by the University. The award certificates will be ready for collection in March, August and November for graduates in Semester A, Semester B and Summer Term respectively. Graduates will be informed by email of the start date, time and venue for collecting the award certificates around one month in advance.
Documents Required for Collection
- The notification email. E-copy acceptable; and
- Your CityU Student Identity Card/ HKID Card/ Passport.

- Online Authorisation Request via AIMS [Student Record > My Applications > Authorisation Letter]/ A printed authorisation letter signed by you; and
- HKID Card/Passport of the authorised representative.

- Payment proof of Application fees:

Name Verification
Bachelor's Degree graduates will be asked to verify their legal names in English and Chinese (if applicable) to be printed on the award certificates during the online application for graduation.
Associate Degree graduates will receive a PDF file via email for name verification.
If change of legal names is required, please complete and sign the Name Amendment Form and return it with supporting documents to the Academic Regulations and Records Office (ARRO) by post, by email or in person. Please refer to the application form for more details.
Clearance of Outstanding Matters
Students who have not cleared all outstanding matters (e.g., tuition fees, library fines/books, student loans, etc.) with the University will NOT be allowed to collect the award certificate.
Deadline for Collection of Award Certificate
It is the University's policy to retain award certificates for collection up to 31 December of the following year after graduation. After that date, all uncollected award certificates will be confidentially disposed without any further notice.
If graduates wish to get an award certificate afterwards, they will need to apply for replacement award certificate with a fee at the prevailing rate.
Academic Certificate Verification Platform (ACVP)
(from Class of 2024)
The ACVP is a common and trusted platform in blockchain technology for verifying academic certificates issued by higher education institutions in Hong Kong. Implemented and operated by the Joint Universities Computer Centre, it is designed to streamline the verification process as the ACVP serves as a central hub where graduates in various professional or academic endeavours can securely grant access to educational employers or further study institutions to verify their academic credentials. Sharing can be done simply through a link, a QR code, or a PDF file.
The e-Certificate image will be ready in March, August and November for graduates of Semester A, Semester B and Summer Term, respectively.
How to use ACVP
- Visit the official ACVP website and choose “Login”;
- Select “City University of Hong Kong” from the options;
- Enter your CityU EID and password;
- Read the Terms and Conditions carefully;
- Give consent to use the ACVP and
- Generate a URL, a QR code or download the PDF file of your award certificate to share with a third party.
e-Certification (from Class of 2014)
e-Certification is a CityU-built web-based system enabling employers, employment agencies or further study institutions to verify electronically the academic award(s) obtained by a research postgraduate / professional doctorate / taught postgraduate / bachelor's / associate degree holder (for Class of 2014 onwards).
By using the system (accessable via AIMS [Student Record/Alumni Services > e-Certification for Graduates]), graduates can generate and share a secured, direct CityU URL, and the e-Certificate image (for Class of 2022 onwards) at their discretion, to a third party for verification of graduates’ award(s) details. The information is encrypted with an access code provided by graduates to the designated viewer(s) to ensure confidentiality.
The e-Certificate image will be ready in March, August and November for graduates in Semester A, Semester B and Summer Term respectively.
Replacement Award Certificate
A graduate is only permitted to retain ONE award certificate, including replacement award certificate, for each academic qualification he/she is conferred by the University.
Graduate may apply for a replacement award certificate under the following circumstances:
- Permanent loss or damage of the original award certificate;
- Update of name in the case of a legal name change; or
- Inability to collect the original award certificate within the period prescribed by the University.

Please complete the application form and collect the certificates with one of the above means and provide the required documents specified above when collecting the replacement certificates.The notification email is not required in this context.
