DOs and DON'Ts
Familiarise yourself with the section on Rules on Academic Honesty. All academic dishonesty behaviour in connection with University assessments, in particular cheating in examinations, are serious offences and if substantiated, may lead to severe penalties.
Get your assigned seat number in advance for that examination from your own personal examination timetable in AIMS.
Ensure your eligibility of attending the examinations. Students who have withdrawn from studies or with non-payment of tuition fees will not be allowed to attend the examination.
Check with the teachers the items that are allowed to be brought to an examination. Use of unauthorized materials in an examination is considered as a form of academic dishonesty.
Bring your student ID card and place it on the top right hand corner of your desk for checking by invigilators. If your student ID card is lost, please report to the Academic Regulations and Records Office immediately and apply for a replacement card.
Arrive at the examination venue 10-15 minutes before the scheduled time.
Switch off the mobile phones and all electronic devices (unless they are permitted for individual examinations as specified on examination papers) and put inside your properly closed bag during the whole examination.
Put your belongings (including unauthorised materials) inside a bag which can be closed properly during examinations.
Observe the instructions given by the Chief Invigilator during the examination. Start, and stop, writing as instructed by an invigilator.
Before leaving the examination venue to use the restroom, seek permission from the invigilator. A record of each departure will be maintained by the invigilators. Students will only be permitted to temporarily leave the examination venue for a valid reason, one at a time under normal circumstances.
Don't bring valuable things to any examinations. The University is not responsible for any loss of property inside an examination venue.
Don't take Library books to any open book examinations.
Don't be late for the examinations. Extra time will not be granted. Students who are late by more than 30 minutes may not be allowed to take the examination.
Don't make noise during the examination. If you need to talk to an invigilator, in which case raise your hand first and remain in your seat for an invigilator to approach you.
Don't bring any electronic devices such as mobile phones, smart watches or unauthorized materials while leaving the venue to use the restroom. Disciplinary action will be taken against students who do not follow these rules, which may lead to failure grade in the concerned course.
Don't discuss the examination or share any information related to the questions or answers with other students while on the way to or in the restroom. Doing so will be considered cheating.
Don't smoke or eat in the examination venue. You may bring a small (transparent) bottle of water for drinking provided that no disturbance is caused to other students.
Don't leave the examination venue during the first 30 and the last 15 minutes in an examination. If you must leave for an acceptable reason, you should seek the permission of an invigilator first.
If you, for any reasons, suspect that an examination has not been conducted properly, you may write to the Academic Regulations and Records Office outlining the case. This should be done within three working days after the conclusion of the examination concerned.
If there is any inconsistency or ambiguity between the page contents and the Academic Regulations (AR), rules and guidelines, the AR, rules and guidelines shall prevail.
